Trip Down to JB & Kukup

06022010 2330

I've always wanted to go to Singapore during Christmas just to see the decors. Finally got a chance to make the trip down south after much planning by my dearest coursemates.

We made our journey to Johor Bahru before heading to Kukup, a fishing village famous for its fresh seafood and homestay and our final destination, Singapore for the New Year countdown. The journey to JB is my longest solo journey on public transport-all this while I've always had company.

Departed on the 28th Dec early in the morning and arrived in JB around noon. Headed for lunch where our host, also my roomie, brought my friend Shin Yi and I to a restaurant well-known for its fish ball mee. We then went to City Square to shop while waiting for the others to arrive.

Met up with the others and went for dinner at Roost Cafe. The atmosphere and environment was awesome, with antiques decors and dim lightings. It was unique in its own way. It's a good place to hang out with friends, not to mention the delicious smoothies and great food.

Delicious banana smoothie(recommended) =)

Our next destination, Kukup, is a big contrast from JB. It's a fishing village still without proper sewage system. Having grown up in a city, I've never expected to see taxis of the 60's or 70's, blue and without air-conditioning, and also dysfunctional speedometers. It was an eye-opening experience living in a house without proper sewage system, where your wastes go directly into the sea...(whoops...contribution to the environment in a way, as they are food to fish?)

A glance at Kukup...

Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable stay. We had the opportunity to taste fresh seafood and BBQ dinner prepared by the owner of the house we rented. We were stuffed with food throughout our stay. For only RM 80 per person, the package, which is inclusive of a tour to kelong (a place for rearing fish), lunch, tea, dinner and breakfast, was worth every cent that we paid.

And did I mention that the house has air-conditioning and also a Karaoke? It meant a comfortable stay with endless singing if you would like to. A nice getaway for the weekend if you would like to idle away. You can catch a bus from the Larkin bus station to Pontian for around RM8.50 for a two way ticket, and from Pontian to Kukup by taxi for only RM 5 per person.

It was a great experience.

Next up, trip to Singapore...to be continued....
